The Fight for Rights Tour

Welcome to the Fight for Rights Tour, our Civil Rights tour in Birmingham. On this tour we'll cover many of the major landmarks from the Civil Rights era in Birmingham, AL. Join us as we learn about the ACMHR, the KKK, and a whole host of organizations battling for power, control, and the fate of the Magic City.

We'll take a look at where Bull Connor reigned and where Fred Shuttlesworth prayed. As we learn how Communism shaped the Movement, we'll see where a First Lady was treated like a second class citizen and the home of the "Dixiecrat" Convention. Finally, we'll follow the footsteps of attacking Klansmen and walk the streets of the determined marchers.

Chasing racism all over town, we'll learn how it impacted everyone each and every day. Replay where bombs blew up and what happened when segregation finally fell on our Fight for Rights Tour.

*The 1:45 PM tour is offer from October-April. Due to the summer heat, our afternoon Fight for Rights Tour is a two hour driving tour. It can be booked here. Private tours can be either per request.

More details below and a list of places we typically visit on this tour...

The Fine Print
  • We will attempt to visit the following sites: Linn Park, Boutwell Auditorium, Bethel Baptist Church, Phillips High School, Freedom Riders attack site, Black Business District, Kelly Ingram Park, Gaston Motel, and 16th Street Baptist Church. Unforeseen circumstances may alter our set plan, but we will attempt to add another location if one is not available.

  • For those staying in Birmingham, we will pick you up from any downtown hotel location or downtown Airbnb. The list of approved hotels is shown when you book. If you do not see your hotel, we do not pick up from that location. For those staying at an Airbnb, please provide the address when adding pick up location. We do not pick up from every Airbnb in Birmingham, only those downtown. We encourage all others to use local taxi services, Uber, Zyp bike, or the max bus when arriving/departing. If you have any questions about whether your place is in downtown, please contact us directly.

  • The tour begins promptly at 9:45 AM. Please arrive 10-15 minutes prior to the start time to ensure we are able to begin on time. We leave Kelly Ingram Park at 10:00 AM and cannot accommodate arrivals past that point. Refunds or discounts will not be given to late arrivals.

  • Your ticket cost covers transportation between all locations and access to Bethel Baptist Church if available.

  • This tour does not include access to the interior of 16th Street Baptist Church or the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute. We do finish the tour in front of 16th Street and the BCRI so if you have interest in going in, you will be at the perfect spot.
