Brookside, AL (Food Festival)
Brookside, AL is home to the only Russian Orthodox church in the state of Alabama and one of the few in the Southeast. An old coal-mining town, Brookside was in its hey-day about 80+ years ago with saloons, theaters, and shops all along the main drag through downtown.

Once a year, St. Nicholas Russian Orthodox Church celebrates the history and heritage of the people of Brookside, AL with a Slavic/Russian Food Festival.

Sample stuffed cabbage, kolbasa, meat pies, pigachi, and other dishes and delights. Walk through historic St. Nicholas church, founded in 1894. Enjoy singing and dancing from the entertainment or meander through the small store selling traditional Eastern European goods. We'll also visit some other local sites around Brookside relevant to the history of the town and its people.
